FPHI-Designated Lead Institute on Center for Disease Control Study
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta and the National Network of Public Health Institutes have designated the Florida Public Health Institute as the Lead Institute on a study of national expertise in computer and formal modeling for emergency preparedness actions. The Preparedness Modeling Initiative is designed to determine the level of awareness and use of computer, mathematical and other sophisticated modeling for preparedness and response to an influenza pandemic, radiological release in an urban setting and a series of severe summer heat waves.
The FPHI, with the assistance of two supporting public health institutes, from Michigan and New Hampshire, will conduct a rapid needs assessment consultation with local, state and national health leaders. The results will be presented at a national meeting and a final report for publication in a peer reviewed journal will appear early in 2008. Lisa Rosenfeld MPH is the Project Manager of this project.
