FPHI invited to present at the nation’s leading meeting for health professionals concerned with protecting the emergency and disaster preparedness and response
Debora Kerr, Assistant Director of the FPHI, and Lisa Rosenfeld, Director of the FPHI Center for Bio Preparedness will attend the
NACCHO--National Association of City and County Health Officials Public Health Preparedness Summit Meeting in February in Atlanta. The meeting logo is “ Measuring Preparedness, Celebrating Our Success and Challenging our Future”.
The 2008 Public Health Preparedness Summit is the nation's largest conference for public health and emergency preparedness professionals. This third annual Summit provides attendees the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge workshops, interactive sessions, and round table discussions that are designed to enhance knowledge, increase professional networks, and leave participants inspired.
Previous Summits have been hailed as significant national events bringing the public health preparedness community together to share resources and plan together for the future. The 2008 Summit will provide a new perspective on preparedness activities.
On behalf of the FPHI, Lisa Rosenfeld MPH will be presenting the findings of the Needs Assessment of 8 states and 40 leading local city, county and state health professionals at a break-out session. In addition, Julie Fishman, MPH of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention will be co-presenting.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is creating a Preparedness Modeling Unit to provide staff and stakeholders with information about modeling options, scenario-based analysis, and policy guidance across a range of potential threat situations. In an effort to inform this newly established unit, CDC partnered with the National Network of Public Health Institutes to conduct a rapid needs assessment in three key states to inform the initial strategic directions of the Unit. The goal of the assessment is to describe current practice in the awareness and use of preparedness modeling as well as explore the potential opportunities for introducing, expanding or enhancing the use of preparedness modeling in local public health practice. The assessment, lead by the Florida Public Health Institute, will interview key informants in Florida, Michigan and New Hampshire as well as neighboring states. Results and a discussion of opportunities in preparedness modeling will be shared.
